At last night’s 59th annual Grammy awards many well known female performers were recipients of awards, most recognizably Adele for winning five awards including Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. Of course with Adele’s win for Album of the Year came much speculation as many in the audience thought the award should have gone to Beyonce for her groundbreaking visual album Lemonade; one of those people being Adele herself. So what did Adele do? She broke her Grammy award in half and shared her win with Beyonce. Talk about sharing an achievement.

Did You Know

Currently, about 71% of mothers with children under the age of 18 work while in 1975, fewer than 47% held a job. Some years ago, the thought of women having job outside of the home was unheard of. Not only do more women work today, but women have jobs in a wider range of fields than before. This stems from the growth in education and learning resources we have today as well. Guess us girls just keep getting smarter and smarter.

Blast From the Past

Today in 1901, the United States Army Nurse Corps became an official organization in the armed forces. Why was this considered such an achievement you ask? Well, just a little over a decade ago was the women’s suffrage movement, where women just began to gain most of the rights we have today. Since most of the nurses at the time were female, this proved to be a huge paved way for women in the army sciences as well as other male dominated jobs. So, as an official group affiliated with the United States Army, females began to show they had other capabilities other than raising children and household work. Now that’s what I call girl power.
